WELCOME TO OUR COUNTRY
Dear Honourable and Esteemed Guests of German Economic Delegation
Within the railway sector, for the first time such a big delegation comes to our country. The esteemed members of NUMOV, an Association of the Contractors and Industrialists of German Railways, indeed we are very pleased to be introduced with you.
I hope that you and your companies will see the business potential in Turkey you look for.
To conclude the contracts for the new business in Turkey and to produce the technical works or to make joint investments together with Turkish companies will be benefit of the economies of our countries.
Our railways originally were built according to the German systems. Because of the railways built by your ancestors in our country many years ago as well as the technical services furnished by them, we the Turks feel a special closeness to Germans. Within the mood of these feelings as a President of RAYDER I would like to welcome all of you once again sincerely.
RAYDER (Association of Rail Transport Systems) is a civil society organisation established with the aim of the development of public transport services such as railways ,tube passage, high speed trains, underground and tramway, and also with the aim of announcing and advertisement of the activities and works carried out so far.
RAYDER is established by a group of "RAILWAY FRIENDS" functioning as Directors, Operators and Instructors at the universities within the railways, underground and rail transport sector.
RAYDER helps to solve several problems faced within this sector not only by the railways but also by all of the operator organisations, contractor companies, companies manufacturing railway material, our municipalities, public and private companies that render services within this sector.
We organise several technical meetings in order to help to our colleagues working within the sector to introduce and come closer with each other and to exchange and share their technical knowledge among them. We are trying to apply new technologies also in our country by following them closely. We are giving professional technical training relating to the rail systems.
Our Prime Minister His Excellency Mr. Tayip ERDOĞAN and our new Government consider that the development of our railways and bringing them to the EU standards is an important policy of the Government.
Our Government allocated considerable financial resources in order to develop the railway investments.
As in many fields, a lot of agreements have been signed with EU in order to rise also the standards of our railways during our negotiations for entering into EU. In this regard, we have a lot to do.
Mr. Süleyman KARAMAN, Director General of TCDD and his esteemed managers, have been exerting every effort together with their personnel during the last 3 years. Our wagon factory TÜVASAŞ in Adapazarı and our locomotive factory TÜLOMSAŞ and engine factory in
Eskişehir are rendering very successful services. Nevertheless we have a lot of work to do in front of us.
Because of the 150th Anniversary of TCDD, there will be a big participation including TCDD, TÜVASAŞ; TULOMSAŞ and our many private companies in to the exhibition of "BERLIN Innotrans 2006". We hope to come together at our stands in Berlin Innotrans 2006 exhibition.
Distances are not far away any more within our globalized world. The problems of the countries do not exist only within the border of those countries but they have become related directly with our neighbouring countries also.
Most part of our railways was constructed 50 and 100 years ago. Our lines are quite old and they need to be renewed and overhauled. Most part of our railways was constructed according to the low speed trains at that time. We should work hard in order to bring our railways to the EU standards.
We certainly need to make cooperation with the private companies like you as well as with the foreign investments for the renewal of our railways, carrying out the necessary maintenance and repair works, constructing the high speed train lines and manufacturing new railway rolling stock and operating high speed lines.
I am sure that you also desire to bring our railways to the world standards. As you may know, the transport of several products manufactured by Germany and by other EU countries to Middle East and Middle Asia via Turkey in the most economical way can only be achieved by railways having the higher standards. In this context all of us have a lot to do and we all have great interests.
Marmaray tube passage construction works are going on in İstanbul. Marmaray project is the biggest project in the world in its category. The investment amount of this project is approximately EUR 2.5-3 billion. Please follow the investments you may also have business.
Underground and tramway services have been developing recently in our municipalities. At present, in our 7 cities (İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Bursa, Eskişehir, Konya, Antalya) underground, LRT and tramway vehicles are being used in the inner city public transport services. Furthermore, projects and investments for rail systems are currently going on in our 8 different cities.
Many of our municipalities wish to introduce the rail transport systems for the inner city public transport services. Therefore you have also the possibility of having great business with our several municipalities.
Dear guests of German Economic delegation, you have realised very important beginning by your visit and you have had the possibility to see and had an idea about our country, railways and its affiliated corporations as well. However, Turkey is not a country to see and decide on within only 2 or 3 days from Ankara although it is the capital.
İstanbul is a gigant metropol having the population of 12 million and having 50% of the economy of Turkey.
I suggest you to realise your second visit to İstanbul.
All of the headquarters of the many big companies are in İstanbul. I also suggest you to have negotiations with our railway companies in İstanbul, İstanbul Municipality, İETT and Transport Co.
We have a lot of companies which are contractors or manufacturers of several material who render services in the rail system sector. I think that you should have close contacts with our companies within the sector. If you try, you can establish a cooperation and joint ventures and you can make a lot of investments in Turkey. During your future contacts with Turkey, as RAYDER we can make joint works with NUMOV.
In our country where railways have been neglected for 50 years, a new railway development initiation has been started. Please come to Turkey once and once again. If you persevere and exert your efforts patiently you shall certainly have business.
Dear Guests of German Economic Delegation welcome to our railways once again.
Wishing you success during your works and meetings please accept my kind regards to you.
Ahmet GÖK
President of RAYDER
